Everybody I know got this mail today.

It shows how great a job the NYPD is doing, it is just a shame that so many
community servants have to die or get injured before they can get credit for
a job well done.

Pass it along

In recent weeks, New York City has been overwhelmed by anti-police bias.
Please keep in mind the following facts that have been drowned out by angry
rhetoric: a.. Since 1995 NYPD Officers have been fired upon more than 155
times without returning fire. During this same period, 150 officers were
wounded by firearms, however the number of officers discharging their
weapons decreased by 59.5%. In 1999 less than one half of 1% of the entire
Police Department discharged a weapon in the line of duty. b.. Since 1990,
29 NYPD Officers have been killed in the line of duty. NYPD Officers
sustained more than 125,000 injuries in the fight against crime during
these years and were shot at more than 3,200 times while ensuring your safety.
c.. The NYPD has prevented more than 8000 homicides since 1990. d.. The
NYPD has saved more than 325,000 New Yorkers from becoming the victims of
Robbery since 1990. e.. In 1999, the NYPD responded to more than SIX
MILLION calls for service (an average of nearly 17,000 per day). And this
is in a safer city, imagine what it was in the early 90's. f.. NYPD
Officers are more restrained in their use of weapons than Officers in other
major cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Washington D.C.
and Miami. NYPD firearms policy is severely more restrictive than New
York State law. This means that policy prevents an officer from using his
weapon even when the law says it is justified. g. In 1990 NYPD Officers
shot and killed 41 perpetrators. In 1999 NYPD Officers shot and killed 11,
hardly the portrait of an out of control, trigger - happy department. I,
myself, have been shot at 6 times since 1991 without returning fire.
Please keep in mind that this in an election year for a hotly contested
Senate seat and that the media will only portray those things that sell
papers, etc. Controversy sells papers. The media does not accurately
portray all the facts. Many recent reports have been noticeably biased or
downright inaccurate.
Please forward this to all your friends and coworkers.
